May 19, 2004, Verona, NJ--The business and technical journal that reports on developments in the field of fluorine chemistry, FLUORSIGHT, celebrated 13 years of publication last month. Supported by an international subscriber base of companies engaged in activities ranging from basic fluorochemical research to applied fluorine chemistry, the journal reports on business developments and technological advancements in the field of fluorochemicals, including fluoroelastomers, fluoropolymers and inorganic fluorides.
Created in April 1991, FLUORSIGHT has tracked a wide variety of industry changes. Several examples include: the phase out of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and the expanding role of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs); an ever-broadening array of new products and applications for fluorochemicals; the formation of such companies as Dyneon, originally a Hoechst-3M joint venture, the merger of Fluoroware and Empac in 1999 to form Entegris, and Solexis, formed by the merger of Ausimont and Solvay in 2002.
FLUORSIGHT reports important technical advancements and business transactions in the industry on a regular basis. U.S. patents involving fluorine chemistry are reviewed and summarized in an easy-to-read format. Companies with an important basic involvement in the dynamic field of fluorine chemistry are routinely covered, including such global players as Asahi Glass, Atofina, Bayer, Daikin Industries, Dainippon, Dupont, Honeywell, Kureha, 3M, Miteni, Mitsui, Rhodia, Shin-Etsu, and Solvay Solexis. Examples of companies engaged in applied fluorine chemistry include: Avon and L’Oreal (cosmetics), Chlorox (household cleaners), Dupont Dow Elastomers (fluoroelastomers), Entegris (electronics processing), Merck (pharmaceuticals), Omnova (fluorosurfactants), PPG (weather resistant coatings), and W.L.
